Why We Love Our Neon Sign

A new light shines on Pioneer Park in downtown Salt Lake City. Our newly installed sign, created by a long-standing, local sign shop, is bright, beautiful, and built with a high level of craftsmanship.

There's a phenomenal amount of artistic craftsmanship when it comes to creating neon signs. It has to be handcrafted with attention to detail, which is something we highly value and strive for in ourselves, at Underbelly. Each sign is a unique piece of art. We didn’t want to just settle for an LED, or standard lit sign, because it didn't seem to speak to who we are as creatives. We knew we wanted neon, so we searched and found the perfect company to do it for us. Luckily for us, they were located right in our neighborhood.

Brimley working on neon sign process for Underbelly Creative

Brimley Neon originally called “Brimley Brothers” is a local family-owned business that was created in 1932. Dave Brimley, a fourth-generation glassblower, and current owner aided us during the process of building a custom neon sign for our agency. Brimley has a collaborative approach when working on projects, and the family worked with us every step of the way to ensure that the end product was exactly what we wanted.

You can feel the history and significance of how long the company has been around by merely being in their workshop. Seeing the process behind the work itself and learning about how neon is made from the experts, it is clear that those at Brimley are passionate and highly skilled in their craft. Some of the world’s most recognizable nationals such as Nike, Walt Disney Productions, and the NFL, have also sought out Brimley to create signage for their unique techniques.

We loved working with a local, family-owned company with integrity, creativity, and skilled craftsmanship and couldn’t be happier with the end result of our new neon sign. Now we are looking for ways we can incorporate more neon signs into our new creative studio space.

Our neon sign dreams finally came true.
