Citi Bike wanted to show the many ways people use their bicycles to travel around New York City, whether they’re locals riding to work or tourists exploring new territories for the first time. Our challenge: capture these stories in two days and turn the resulting footage into crisp, 15-second narratives for an Instagram marketing campaign.
Once we flew into NYC we had one day to do a director location scout that took us from Central Park West to Alphabet City, and finally the Brooklyn Bridge. Then, we focused on the gear we’d use to get the best footage given the variety of locations and road surfaces we would be shooting on. We used Anthony Lagoon, to keep pace with several cyclists on a Boosted Board with a RED camera on a Movi Pro. Matt Royce took control of the camera with a Mimic to ensure we got the best shots and angles while Anthony focused on staying intact on the hectic city streets.
Shooting in a dozen different locations from the busy city streets to inside the Global Citizens Festival over a day and a half proved to be quite a unique challenge. However we were able to use the right equipment to get the right shots and delivered some great content for Citi Bike to run their marketing campaign.
