What's in Your Bag, Nikki?

By Nikki Hauptman

Prive Revaux Sunglasses - The Escobar

I found this website Prive Revaux through an Instagram ad and decided to check them out. I fell in love with all the different styles of sunglasses. I love that all of the sunglasses they offered were reasonably priced, polarized, and with UV protection. I am always driving around town running errands for the studio and I don’t think I could survive driving in sunny Utah without the perfect pair of shades! I really love the small details on this pair of glasses. My favorite aspect is the tiny gap of space between the frame and the lense. I think it is such a stylish, thoughtful detail, and I feel like the coolest kid on the block when I wear them.

iPad & Apple Pencil

Outside of my role as Office Coordinator, I love working on my own artistic pursuits. I mostly create illustrations and I am currently taking a few classes on Hand Lettering. Recently, the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil combined with the app Procreate have been my favorite tools to use together for creating digital artwork. I enjoy experimenting with many different drawing styles, brushes, colors, and techniques and I feel like I am allowed a ton of creative freedom to explore with these tools. When I found out that the iPad I wanted was available in rose gold, a new obsession started in my life; color coordinating everything.

ESR Lightweight iPad Case & MoKo Apple Pencil Case

My rose gold obsession took off after purchasing the iPad. Of course I had to get a lightweight, protective, rose gold case that looked cute and also works as a stand. I was also very paranoid about losing the Apple Pencil and saw the perfect opportunity to add more rose gold to my life with the MoKo case. Overall I have been pleased with this entire case setup. It is versatile, cute, and keeps everything protected and together through the chaos.

iPhone 7 Plus with Gear 4 Piccadilly Phone Case

Did I mention I like rose gold? At the beginning of this year I finally made the switch from Android to iPhone and of course, had to get the rose gold one. So far I’ve really enjoyed the change! I love the high quality camera and how easy it is to access files across devices. I tend to be a little rough on my devices so I was stoked to find a case that was rose gold, simple, and protective. I’ve tried a few different cases but I always end up switching back to this one. It just feels right!

Fidget Cube

I have always struggled to just sit still and work. I feel like I am always fidgeting and moving around, even when I’m perfectly comfortable. I picked up a fidget cube earlier this year to see if it was useful for channeling all that energy and I ended up really liking it! I like keeping it right next to my keyboard and using it while watching tutorial videos or reading long blocks of text. Overall the cube has been helpful for keeping me engaged while working on anything that requires long blocks of undivided attention.

Playing Cards

I spent some time in my early twenties working as a table games dealer. A habit I developed from that job was using cards to help me work through any mental blockers. When I am stuck on an issue and need to spend time thinking through solutions, I will often grab my deck of cards, shuffle them, and lay them out in patterns as I think through what I’m working on. The sound of the cards flipping and the repetitive motion of shuffling is something I’ve found to be effective for processing through tough tasks and roadblocks. This specific deck of cards is not the most fancy or aesthetically pleasing deck, but the cards are waterproof and built to survive a lifetime of anxious shuffling so they work perfectly for me.

Favorite Pen

Pilot G-2 Retractable Gel Pen

I am an avid notetaker. I am constantly filling up notepads, memo books, journals, and random post-its with tasks and reminders. I use digital calendars and tasks managers for most everything, but I always find myself coming back to pen and paper as my favorite method. I feel like I can keep track of everything and internalize information better when I write things down. Since I take so many handwritten notes, I’ve become picky and particular about what tools I use. The Pilot G-2 0.38 is my favorite pen of all time and I always have one on me. It has the perfect line weight and ink feel for my writing style and I swear by it. I go through so many of these pens that I feel like somewhere in my life there is a graveyard of empty G-2 pens.

Make Today Epic Pen

I had the privilege of attending the Epicurrence Winter Work Week earlier this year. I spent an entire week in Yosemite attending workshops and creating lifelong friendships with down-to-earth, inspiring, and passionate creatives. The entire experience left me feeling excited for the future and full of creative energy. Epicurrence was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had and I love carrying a piece of it with me wherever I go. This pen was included in my swag bag for the conference and despite my pickiness about writing tools, I’ve kept this pen with me as a constant reminder to make every day as Epic as I can.

Pat McGrath Liquid Lipstick, Compact Mirror, & Bite Beauty Pencil

Along with being super particular about my writing tools, I care a lot about the makeup I use. I love using deep berry and rich rose colors that work well with the highlights and undertones of my skin. I also value a lipstick that will stay on all day with minimal touch-ups. I tend to change my mind a lot so I love rotating between my Pat McGrath Liquid Lip and my Bite Beauty Pencil. I’ve found my perfect shade in both and as a creature of habit, it is so hard to switch to other brands! I also keep my favorite compact mirror with me to make sure my lipstick looks picture perfect.

Gummy Bears

I love candy! I received these Brut and Rose gummy bears as a gift from someone who knows how much I love candy, champagne, and rose gold colors. I was going through my bag and had to laugh at the fact that even my candy was color coordinated.

Protein Bar

My job here at Underbelly can be really random at times! As the Office Coordinator I work with all of our teams and my schedule is sometimes at the whim of whatever is going on that day. I have a bad habit of forgetting to eat when things get really busy so I’ve started keeping protein bars in my bag to avoid that awkward mid-afternoon hangry mode. So far, it’s been really nice! Plus, bars that color coordinate with the rest of my stuff? Sign me up.

Note to Self

My life tends to be hectic no matter how much I try to stay on top of everything but I love it and wouldn’t change it for the world. Sometimes to keep up with it all, I just need to write a cute simple note to myself to remember my lunch that day!
